Ashley Kilingfelde
Music with character.
Sam Dell’s latest death metal project, Ashley Kilingfelde, is all about character. After years of photographing Sam, we decided to branch into video. The video series I shot and edited can be found here. For more information on Ashley Kilingfelde and to listen to his debut demo, please visit his website (2021).
Faces in Clay
Where imagination grows from unexpected places.
This series of hand-built ceramic faces were created to hold plants and flowers and symbolize the need to “water” our imaginations to watch them grow (2018-2019).
Who Needs Feminism?
Who needs feminism? You need feminism.
This poster was created as a response to the prompt, who needs feminism? The letters were hand-cut from a variety of paper sources to demonstrate the idea that every person from every part of the world and every walk of life, needs feminism (2018).
Samuel Dell
Music that tells a story.
A series of photographs and portraits of Sam Dell, a local composer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer for his now-released progressive death metal album, Enclosure. I’ve known Sam since we were thirteen and always enjoy being able to sit in on on his musical process and capture the energy in the room. If you want to find out more about Samuel Dell Metal, you can check him out on Facebook or Soundcloud (2016).
*I have continued to document Sam Dell’s musical journey, including his new project under the name Ashley Kilingfelde.
Lunation Brewing Co.
Making beer for the loud and proud ladies who like to kick back, relax, enjoy their womanhood, their magical lady powers, and life with a cold one.
My mom's brewing "company," run out of an old bathroom in the basement was the inspiration for this branding and design project. I was inspired by the fact that there are very few brewmistresses. Lunation Brewing Co. was born out of the association with women and the phases of the moon. The logo is meant to embody femininity in a strong, powerful, and visually captivating way (2015).
BODY MANTLE
Chainmail to protect from a puzzling world.
As a student in the design program at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design, Art, Architecture, and Planning, I used 194 puzzle pieces strung together to create a body mantle inspired by medieval chainmail. The body mantle was presented at a fashion show on Halloween (2014).
Growing Community connections mural
Connecting art and community.
My final project as an ArtWorks Apprentice was a mural in the Villages of Roll Hill (formerly the Fay Apartments). The mural celebrates the residents — depicting men, women, children of all ages. Icons spread throughout the mural depict the interests and values of the community. As an experienced apprentice, I worked additional hours as a Detail Artist to ensure quality finishes (2014).
Random Snacks of Kindness
Changing the world, one snack at a time.
For my third summer as an ArtWorks apprentice, I worked on their first entrepreneurial youth project, Random Snacks of Kindness, led by local chef Frances Kroner. The Ginger Coconut snack mix we created was sold in local shops and boutiques that winter with proceeds directly benefitting ArtWorks. The project involved developing the snack mix in the kitchens at Cincinnati State, creating a business plan for the snack company, doing research on similar products/price points, interviewing and meeting with local business owners, and designing the logo, packaging, and display.
To learn more about this project, watch the informational video found here (2013).
Along The Hill Mural
Bringing light and life to humans and animals alike.
My second ArtWorks mural was located in West Price Hill on the side of the Covedale Pet Hospital. This mural depicts the transition of West Price Hill - from the pre-historic era to the industrial age and has many animals dispersed throughout to honor the animals coming in and out of the pet hospital. As an Apprentice Artist I leaned about the history of the neighborhood from local historians and designed my own fossilized leaf icon inspired by the art deco architecture found in West Price Hill (2012).
a Perfect day in college hill
Sunny with a chance of clouds.
My first job was as an ArtWorks Apprentice painting a mural in my own neighborhood of College Hill. The mural depicts a series of weather vanes, chosen because of the neighborhood's early adoption of weather tracking systems, that symbolize the history and values of the community (2011).
*This mural was decommissioned in 2022 to make way for affordable housing.
Most of the photographs from the ArtWorks projects on this page were taken by the many talented photographers ArtWorks hires every summer.
